We hope you’re using your Contempo Wall entertainment center to house all your favorite audio equipment – turntable, subwoofer, surround-sound stereo system. If not, it’s ok, but you might want to pay attention since this year’s Grammy Awards, airing Sunday Feb. 12 at 8 on CBS, will give you a good reason to upgrade.
Last year, Canadian indie-rockers Arcade Fire made waves after winning the 2011 award for Album of the Year for their third studio album The Suburbs. Justin Vernon and his band of folkies, Bon Iver, may make a similar splash this year with four nominations (Best New Artist, Best Alternative Music Album, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year).
British Songstress Adele ruled 2011 with her retro-soul powered record 21, unleashing hit after hit after hit. She’ll likely rule this year’s Grammy Awards with a whopping six nominations (Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Short Form Music Video, and Best Pop Solo Performance).
Although Adele and Bon Iver have been receiving a fair bit of pre-Grammy hype, it’s still anyone’s night. Folk-rockers Mumford & Sons have four nominations as does hip hop’s latest female prodigy Nicki Minaj, while doo-wop pop singer Bruno Mars and stadium rock giants Foo Fighters are both nominated for six awards.
Of course, this year’s Grammy Awards will feature several must-see live performances. The aforementioned Foo Fighters, rapper Lil Wayne and French dance guru David Guetta will team up for a special dance/electronica segment. Adele, Tony Bennet, Coldplay, and Bruce Stringsteen and the E Street Band are also scheduled to perform.
The night’s most anticipated performance, however, will be the reunion of Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks, better known as the legendary Beach Boys. The performance will mark the band’s first live appearance in over two decades. They will be joined by contemporary pop stars Maroon 5 and Foster the People.
